Sentient Foundation Launches $42M Grant Program for Open-Source AGI Development
The Sentient Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing open and decentralized artificial general intelligence (AGI), has announced a $42 million grant program. This initiative targets developers, researchers, and companies working on open-source AGI tools, aiming to democratize access to AGI development and accelerate innovation in the field.
The foundation's funding commitment—a nod to Douglas Adams' 'answer to life, the universe, and everything'—reflects its ambitious vision for open-source AGI. Grants will support infrastructure, model development, and applications, with evaluations conducted on a rolling basis.
Notably, the foundation observes growing momentum in open-source AGI projects, some of which may soon rival proprietary systems like Anthropic's Fable 5. The program offers non-dilutive funding and founder-friendly investments to foster breakthroughs beyond corporate AI labs.
